My boudoir studio is located right where we took these photos. Why on earth is this my first engagement session there? When Katie & Jesse told me they wanted something the complete opposite of their wedding vibe (barn-like) and preferred the look of the historic West Bottoms for their engagement session, I was all in.

Katie and Jesse met at a bar in 2011 in a very “them” fashion. Jesse almost hit Katie with a door. She told him to apologize. They’ve been in love ever since. They live together in a beautiful house with six amazingly wonderful animals who yell at me when I don’t pet them enough.

A couple of years ago they did an absolutely amazing renovation of their home kitchen and made my husband and I a three-course meal that was the best thing I’ve ever eaten. They were also in a wedding party for some amazing nuptials I photographed in 2018! They are such a down-to-earth, playful and loving couple. They take everything in stride which is amazing to know and see considering how much they’ve been through.

When I asked them for three words that described their relationship, I wasn’t far off.

Weird, enduring, cozy

They are yet another amazing friendship that has bloomed due to Twitter and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.

One of my favorite questions I love to ask couples is what TV couple they remind themselves of:

“Jake and Amy from Brooklyn 99 – Jake is a well-meaning, incredibly smart and sweet human disaster, and Amy is a smart, well-organized, giant-ass need human disaster. They’re relationship is like us because they’re so so obviously and abashedly into each other.”

As an also Amy Santiago, I absolutely love this and had to share.

West Bottoms Engagement Session – Jesse & Katie

When you meet couples who want to hire you, the more enthusiastic, the better you feel. So this same-sex West Bottoms engagement session? I’ve peaked. Destiny reached out to me at the end of 2019. Life happened. Nothing came of it. Lindsey reached out a few months later. Told me her fiancee, Destiny, wanted to […]

This post has been brewing and brewing simply because I did not want to jump the gun. My weddings that were all set to occur in the past few months involved me speaking individually to the couples affected. Like much of the midwest, “wedding season” when not counting these summer months, is in the fall. […]

Anyone else feel their ability to “person” correctly dissipate during all of this? I was a blogging fool once upon a time if you can believe it. Now, I’m trying to remember which of my perfect couples I haven’t graced the blog with yet. I immediately stumbled upon Hayley & Bryce. Just waiting in my […]

There’s a pandemic. We all can acknowledge that and move on. Moreover, we all realize the way that it’s changed our day-to-day life and the wedding industry as we know it. Madelyn and Quincy knew they wanted to get married on their 4-year dating anniversary. Luck would have it that in 2020 it was a […]
