Prospero’s Books Maternity Session

Filed in Couples — May 30, 2025

Caroline & Emily reached out for maternity photos as they prepared to expand their family & I was so excited to get this inquiry, especially when I read that they were as big of fans of books/literature as I am. They had a vision for their session that involved one of their favorite local bookstores, Prospero’s, & Roanoke park; A park that these two frequent and planned to bring their new little one.

The weather, as it always is for fall sessions, got in our way a couple of times, but we persevered. On the day of our session, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. The owner of Prospero’s was kind enough to let us head upstairs to photograph our hearts out in the stacks. The floor also has a pretty big record collection for purchase, and it’s a great place to buy records you may be searching for if you’re a collector native to KC.

The moody orange hues of the orange stacks and the surprising amount of light that gets let in on this top floor made for the dreamiest images. We featured their favorite children’s book, Love Makes a Family, & showed off some fresh new kicks and their little one’s ultrasound to really wrap this entire family session into a little bow. This is just the perfect way to show folks how unique and beautiful your own portrait session can be if you personalize it!
