No Vacancy has always screamed elopement chic to me. It’s mid-century hotel meets intimate 70s conversation-pit vibes, and it’s also so versatile.
There are 8 different suites that you can stay in if you’re looking to stay on site, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. Each suite has its own eye-catching setup, and they’re all so lively and sophisticated to photograph.
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing 4 weddings and a wedding feature for True Society wedding dresses. (Fun fact: they have a program where they give deeply discounted wedding gowns to first responders, and I’ve had a client get their gown this way. It was amazing.) The staff is always so kind, the communication is top-notch, and you’re so close to the heart of Kansas City.
First, here are some of the best perks of eloping at No Vacancy.
It’s in Kansas City’s historic Crossroads district.
There are plenty of KC’s favorite restaurants within walking distance, like Mildred’s for a delicious breakfast or Manny’s for some incredible Mexican food. You can catch a show at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center (also within walking distance) or hop onto the Crossroads stop of our Kansas City Streetcar to see some more of our downtown.
Staying there overnight is already a luxury, but the access it gives you without having to take a rideshare is so great.
There are 8 total rooms for friends and family to stay in.
If you’re having folks come in from out of town and want them to stay close, it’s way more intimate than a hotel and not as stringent as an Airbnb. You’re all right next door with your own bathrooms and they have one ADA compatible bathroom so keep that in mind as well!
All the rooms together sleep 17 people.

There’s a bar attached!
You’ll be right above a bar (called Le Lounge) that has light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages for y’all to enjoy. An easy way for a nightcap without having to leave if you much prefer staying close to your lodging for the night. It cannot get closer than that.

For your elopement/intimate wedding, you’ll want a hotel buyout or a full-house reservation. That gives you all 8 rooms & the courtyard for your ceremony and reception. For the full-house reservation, you’ll also get access to the bar.

Everything is done remotely so you’ll receive the code to the elevator & instructions to access the rooms and anything else you could ever want electronically. That means easy access, no waiting around for anyone, and your booking includes fast and free WiFi.
Okay, so here’s the best time to book, if you’ve been thinking about No Vacancy for your elopement.
The real answer? There’s really no bad time. It’s the midwest. If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute. I’ve photographed here in the hottest summer months, to the dead of winter months with snow on the ground. There’s really no bad time.
This place offers so many great options for the schedule or structure of your elopement day.
You could have both your ceremony and reception here. The venue has space for 70 people, and you can go in and out as needed for temperature control.
When it came to Sierra & Brandon’s big day, they got ready with their families at No Vacancy, and their close family and friends stayed as well. Then they did a hop, skip, and a jump over to Union for a gorgeous ceremony and reception.
Anna & Teresa got ready, then had their ceremony and reception at No Vacancy, with a live singer for their first dance. They had their event catered, and it was so easy for everyone to eat wherever they wanted and easily hear when it was time for other festivities.
If you’d like to have a ceremony at your favorite park like Zakila & Ryan, you could come back for tapas, drinks, and dancing at the bar or in the courtyard.
Your time can be as laid-back or formal as you’d like.
Not feeling the mural for your ceremony? Take a page out of Sarah & Blaze’s book and get married on the opposite side. It’s a nice neutral background & you’ll still pop in front of the backdrop.
When should I book with No Vacancy and choose them as our venue?
I always suggest picking your venue, date, & photographer all around the same time. Your photographer needs to know your venue to say yes, and we’ll need your date to make sure we have the capacity. As I only take 10 weddings per year, most of my wedding dates are booked about a year or even two in advance.
So, date first! Decide if it’s flexible. Then talk to your venue and photographer, maybe even at the same time. Larger weddings are harder to shift. With elopements, asl if you can book a “backup” day at an additional cost if you’re worried about weather or any other circumstance that may knock you off kilter.
TL;DR: Do it quick if you’ve got your heart set on the place. It’s a popular venue for all the reasons I stated above and more.
Kansas City has a ton of incredible venues to choose from, but no Vacancy is in the running for my favorite for a good reason.
