Chosen family has taken on a new meaning throughout the years. It’s damn near impossible to have not ended up with one and leaning on them through things we can’t expect with our biological family. Katie and Jesse’s Celestial Kansas Backyard Wedding is proof of that. With unexpected guest changes and a lot of uncertainty with the pandemic, their people were there for them when they needed them most.

I met Katie and Jesse through the vast world that is Kansas City twitter. They were that couple that had been together forever who you always rooted for. They’ve got a menagerie of animals in their home (that are all cute as hell), they’ve built a beautiful home together, and with the science and brawn between the two of them they just make a lot of goddamn sense.

Katie and Jesse love to tell the story about how they met. Jesse almost hit Katie with a door at a bar and their love blossomed from there. Katie has always been obsessed with the stars and so weaving it into their wedding day just felt right. Jesse took his creative talented and made his side of the wedding party the coolest belts for their outfits.

It’s just amazing to see how people make the best out of things and then turn them into literally MAGICAL backyard weddings. The detail these two put into their day to make it truly unique is obvious and I could not be more proud of the humans they are now.
