A Seattle Courthouse Elopement | Hey Walters!
In June, I took my first trip to Seattle ever. It was for this amazing courthouse elopement and every second of it was perfect.
I met Luke and Bern via twitter, just like a few other insane couples of mine. They have seen my internet rants at 3AM and still loved and wanted me to join them on this journey. Wonder if I was intimidated? Extremely so. Luke and Bern give off a real “cool couple” energy, which you’ll see below, and it’s honestly very cool. They wanted to do something so wonderfully them and that included eloping someone with their immediate family in a city they don’t live in. Therefore, they set their sights on an intimate courthouse elopement in Seattle.
Bern wore her leather jacket. Luke wore his marvel converse shoes. Bern started the day with an elaborate hairstyle that didn’t feel like her. So, she said “fuck it” and did what she wanted instead. Getting married with a ponytail may not seem like a big thing but when you photograph hundreds of weddings any sense of rebellion feels good and right. Luke and Bern’s parents packed up and brought Luke’s son where we headed to the courthouse to go get freaking married.
There were so many couples there that day. The original plan was a rooftop wedding, but we had dinner plans and the line was long. Instead, a very bubbly judge pulled us into one of the rooms and performed the ceremony where we could see the skyline. It was incredible. The ceremony felt so personal and important and Luke’s son got to be such a big part of it We traveled to the Seattle Public Library immediately afterward and if you’ve never seen it, consider it. The architecture is beautiful and it was secluded enough on a Monday for amazing portraits. We finished the evening with dinner at an amazing Italian restaurant where my husband became enamored with Bern’s father. His travel stories were magnificent.
