i'm a wedding and portrait photographer in kansas city!

I fell in love with creating a space for people to be themselves several years ago. Since then I have photographed so many people who care about each other deeply and I love sharing their stories with anyone who will listen.

Common Mistakes Couples Make on Their Wedding Day

On your wedding day, things move quickly. I may not be able to take off that stress, but I can preemptively give you some advice. Here’s a few common mistakes couples make on their day & some advice on how to avoid doing the same.

Forgetting to eat – Expect to run around the entire day like a chicken with your head cut off. Mani/pedis, hair and make-up, tons of photos, & pleasing the people. It’s hard! It’s exhausting. You have earned the right to sit down, tell everyone to leave you the hell alone and eat that dinner you paid $1500+ for! If you don’t do it, I will personally bring you a plate and sit you down. I’ll even make airplane noises.* (Available by request).

Drinking too much, too soon – This happens a lot especially when it is hot. I totally encourage drinking! It’s a wedding day. If you want a beer or seven you get a beer or seven. Your day, your way. However, be careful! No one wants to miss their first dance vomiting or (this one’s for the wedding party) give a drunken speech that you’ll be embarrassed about the next day.

Sweating the small stuff – The dress above? The one everyone is losing their absolute shit over? It was bought the night before. She sent her dress in for alterations and when she got it back it was ruined. At the very last minute she had to run to another store and buy a dress off the rack to get married in the next day. Is that a “small stuff”? Absolutely not. My point here is, that if  Casey can get a new dress the day before her wedding and still rock it? You can do anything. Missing a boutonniere? No one will notice. Hair out of place? How vogue. Do not worry. All that matters is you’re married in the end.

Spending money on things you don’t want – Of course there will be a million opinions thrown your way. Some people will want this and others will want that. Guess what? Most guests leave their wedding favors there. Even more of them have no idea what your thousand dollar cake even tasted like. If you like lavish things and want to spend that money, please do! However, if you’re stretching yourself thin to meet other people’s needs, please don’t.

Not taking the quiet moments for yourself – You’ll be “on” the entire day. Those little moments in between take them in and just be. Just sit there with your partner and enjoy yourself and the day because you’ll blink and it’s going to be gone.

Not designating a point of contact – Unless it’s an emergency, on one of the most stressful and exciting days of your life, you should not be bothered with nonsense. Make it someone who you know can delegate and knows what to tell you and what will just stress you out. Trust me, you’ll thank them and me, later.

I can't recommend Tayanna highly enough. Not only were our pictures beautiful, but also she was an incredibly wonderful person to work with. She responds to emails quickly, and was flexible and organized. On our wedding day, it was awesome to have her around: she was fun and positive, and made bridal party pics and family pics actually fun and enjoyable. She's the best.

I am absolutely blessed to have chosen Tay for my elopement, both as a photographer and an ordained minister. It was an intimate ceremony and something so special that I will never forget. The ceremony and photos took place in the very cold snow, because I love snow! Tay was a champ making sure I got the best possible images that would bring back memories of this day forever! I have already had many people tell me that they were some of the best wedding photos they’ve ever seen! 😊 if you’re planning on eloping or need photos for your big wedding, Tay is your girl!

Tayanna is amazing! Her pictures are beautiful, she listens to exactly what you are looking for, helps you come up with a timeline for your big day and makes you feel comfortable having your picture taken. She was recommended to me by 2 friends whose wedding pictures I loved and after meeting with her I knew she was the one to capture our wedding day. Now I'm recommending her to you! Hire her. You'll be so happy you did!

"Hire her."
